Bio

A graduate of Wake Forest University with an MBA from Texas Christian University, David Norman entered golf administration with the Carolinas Golf Association staff. There, he served as assistant director prior to joining RJR/Nabisco’s sports marketing division and its PGA Tour programs from 1988-91. Norman then served as Executive Director of the Virginia State Golf Association 1991-2005. In 2005 he formed Norman & Associates, an association management firm serving golf clients such as the Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association, NGCOA Mid-Atlantic, Maryland State Golf Association, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Golf Course Superintendents, the North Carolina Golf Course Owners Association and various golf publications.

While at the VSGA, Norman initiated a number of new programs and led the VSGA to status as one of the nation’s premier amateur golf associations. Innovative developments in programs such as “Hook A Kid On Golf”, turfgrass scholarships, individual member services, Virginia Golfer magazine and electronic media grew under his leadership. His efforts were significant in the development of Independence Golf Club.

A rules expert, Norman has officiated at numerous U.S. Opens and Presidents Cup matches. He is a member of Golf Digest’s national ranking panel, past president of the International Association of Golf Administrators, a former USGA Committee member and Board member of Hermitage Country Club, and a current member of the Middle Atlantic Golf Association Board. He is a Past President of the Virginia Society of Association Executives (VSAE), earning the association’s highest award, the “Award of Excellence.” In 2017, the Virginia State Golf Association recognized him with the “Service to Golf” Award.
