Paul Porter Award

The Paul Porter Award was established to recognize an NGCOA member who left an enduring mark on a national or international affiliate through the highest level of commitment, service and leadership. The honor was given posthumously to Porter, the late CEO of Poppy Holding, Inc. and the Northern California Golf Assoc., who passed away in September of 2006.

Champion Award

The Champion Award is bestowed upon individuals who or entities which have succeeded in working on behalf of a group of owners – locally, regionally, nationally or internationally – and have garnered through a significant victory for our members. Examples would be legislative or regulatory successes, the creation of an indispensable benefit for NGCOA members or a public relations breakthrough that elevates the role of the course owner.

Player Development Award

This prestigious award recognizes an NGCOA member course, entity or individual who throughout the year has implemented the most successful player development program, providing effective return-on-investment and an overall welcoming atmosphere for new and returning golfers of all ages. The recipient of this award must be well rounded in offering programs that encourage non-golfers to come to the course, new golfers to come back to the course and beginning golfers to raise their level of play to core golfer.

Jemsek National Course of the Year Award

The Jemsek National Course of the Year Award honors a member demonstrating four criteria: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community, and significant contribution to the game. Jemsek Award for Golf Course Excellence

The Jemsek Award honored the world’s top golf courses, which were widely known for superior quality, having hosted major amateur and professional tournaments and for being venues to which golfers travel from far and wide. Jemsek Award winners were industry greats that represent to the golfing and non-golfing public the pinnacle of achievement as outstanding venues. Please note: this award category was merged with the Jemsek National Course of the Year Award starting in 2021.
